Warmachine
About Warmachine:
WARMACHINE® is set in the Iron Kingdoms™, an environment that combines the best of traditional fantasy with steam-power and gunpowder. Across the realm, ancient rivalries among nations are exploding into all-out conflict, setting the stage for WARMACHINE and other Iron Kingdom products.
In WARMACHINE, players take on the role of an elite soldier-sorcerer known as a warcaster. While a warcaster is a formidable force on the battlefield, their true strength is in their ability to magically control and coordinate the actions of their mighty warjacks—steam-powered combat automatons that represent the pinnacle of military might in the Iron Kingdoms.
Each warjack is a fifteen foot tall ironclad behemoth, a coal-fired engine of destruction with a primitive magical brain. On its own a warjack is capable of only the most rudimentary actions, but when controlled by a warcaster its efficiency and deadliness increase dramatically.
The Warmachine Game
WARMACHINE® is a fast-paced and aggressive 30mm tabletop miniatures battle game which is a hell of a lot of fun and very different to the other standard “fantasy” battle games you've played before.
WARMACHINE focuses on battles between warcasters and the titanic forces that they control. A game is fought with a warjack's thundering cannons, ripping iron-claws, and crushing hammer blows. Add to that hails of bullets and a wall of steel from troop units as well as devastating spells wrought by the warcaster himself. When the dust settles, one side is victorious and the other is nothing but smoking scrap metal!
There are quick start rules available for download on the Privateer Website using this link: http://www.privateerpress.com/docs/warmachine/WMQS1_3.pdf which are designed to get you up and running with the contents of your battle-group box set. They are streamlined to facilitate quick learning of the game’s fundamentals, and as such omit certain special rules and options.
The WARMACHINE rulebooks provide greatly expanded rules that cover all the models, including troops and characters, as well as extensive background into the world of the Iron Kingdoms.
There are 6 rulebooks in total starting with the main rulebook Warmachine PRIME. The following 4 rulebook expansions: Escalation, Apotheosis and Superiority and Legends brought new rules, new characters, warjacks and also unit attachments and even new unit types such as Cavalry to the game. Also available is the Pirates of the Broken Coast detailing the Mercenary Pirate forces of Warmachine
All you need to begin with is the PRIME rulebook as each box and blister comes with stat cards included which allow you to field your units and warjacks. If you want to use Unit attachments and Cavalary in your force you will need to progress onto the rulebooks expansions.
The basis of the game is what you will find in the starter sets (known as battlegroups) a Warcaster and 2-3 warjacks. That's all you really need to start playing Warmachine. You can then decide to add additional warjacks to boost fire-power or combat abilities or add units of troops which at time can be just as lethal as the warjacks. Warmahcine is flexible enough to allow you a personalised selection of units, warjacks and warcasters but rigid enough to make each and every game a tough battle and a fair challenge
